1. Getting Started

Polaris Parent Portal lets you stay connected to your child's academic journey. You can view grades, schedules, test scores, college applications, and more — all in real-time.

Tip: Your child must be using the Polaris Student app for you to access their data. The student controls access and can grant or revoke it at any time.

2. Creating Your Account

  1. Go to the Parent Portal login page.
  2. Click "Create Parent Account".
  3. Enter your first name, last name, email, and password.
  4. Click "Create Account".
  5. Check your email for a validation code and enter it to activate your account.
  6. Sign in with your email and password.

You can also sign in with Google or Apple — your account will be created automatically.

Tip: New accounts include a free 14-day premium trial with access to all features!

3. Linking Your Child

Step 1: Your Child Generates an Invite Code

  1. Your child opens their Polaris Student app.
  2. Goes to Settings → Parent Access.
  3. Taps "Generate Parent Invite Code".
  4. A 6-character code appears (e.g., AB3X7K). This code expires in 72 hours.

Step 2: You Enter the Code

  1. In the Parent Portal, go to My Children.
  2. Click "Link Child".
  3. Enter the 6-character invite code.
  4. Click "Link Child" — your child now appears on your dashboard!
Important: Your child can revoke your access at any time from their app. When revoked, you immediately lose access to their data.

4. Dashboard Overview

The Dashboard shows a summary of all your linked children:

Click on any child card to view their detailed grades.

5. My Children

The My Children page lists every child you've linked to your account. From here you can:

Tip: The active child is shown in the header. All pages (Grades, Schedule, etc.) reflect the active child until you switch.

Academics

The Academics section covers everything related to your child's current school performance.

5.1 Viewing Grades

The Grades page shows your child's courses, grades per quarter/semester, and cumulative GPA. This is a free feature — always available.

ColumnDescription
CourseName of the class
YearSchool year (e.g., 2025-2026)
GradeCurrent letter grade (color-coded: A=green, B=blue, C=yellow, D/F=red)
CreditsNumber of credits for the course

5.2 Class Schedule

View your child's daily class schedule including class name, teacher, room number, and time. This is a free feature.

5.3 Academic Record

A transcript-style view of all courses grouped by school year, with GPA and graduation year. This is a free feature.

5.4 Class Explainer

Click any course to open the Class Explainer. It uses AI to summarize what the class is about, typical topics covered, and how it connects to college readiness. Use this to have informed conversations with your child about what they're studying.

5.5 Test Scores

The Test Scores page tracks standardized tests (SAT, ACT, AP, PSAT, IB, etc.). Each entry includes the test name, date, raw score, subscores, and percentile where available. Scores feed into Ask Polly's college-fit analysis. Premium feature.

5.6 Weekly Digest

A Sunday email summarizing your child's week: grade changes, upcoming deadlines, study hours, and goal progress. Toggle it on under Settings → Notifications → Weekly Digest.

Planning

Planning tools help you and your child think ahead — college, budget, deadlines, study habits, and family goals.

6.1 College List

View the colleges your child is targeting, with status (Interested, Applying, Accepted, etc.), application deadlines, early-decision dates, and major interests. You can filter by status and sort by deadline. Premium feature.

6.2 College Readiness

A dashboard that scores your child's readiness across GPA, test scores, activities, and application progress. Each factor shows whether your child is below, on track, or above target for their dream colleges.

6.3 College Budget

Estimate the total cost of attendance for each college on the list, minus any offered aid. The totals roll up into a family view so you can compare options side by side.

6.4 Calendar

A unified calendar showing exams, project due dates, school events, and college application deadlines across all linked children. Use the filter bar to view a single child or everyone.

6.5 Study Progress

See how much your child is studying, which subjects, and their goal progress. Includes a weekly heatmap and subject-level breakdown. Premium feature.

6.6 Activities

Extracurriculars, clubs, sports, volunteer work, and summer programs. Track hours, role (leader/member), and dates — useful for college applications and scholarships.

6.7 Family Goals

Goals you set together as a family (e.g., "Raise math grade to B+", "Visit 3 colleges this spring"). Each goal has a deadline, owner, and progress indicator. Goals appear on the dashboard for accountability.

Schoolwork

Day-to-day assignments, teachers, and formal report cards.

7.1 Assignments

See upcoming and past assignments for each class — title, due date, status (not started, in progress, submitted, graded), and grade if returned. Overdue items are flagged in red.

7.2 Teachers

Directory of your child's teachers with subject taught, email (where shared), and a link to send a message through the portal if messaging is enabled.

7.3 Report Card

Official per-quarter/semester report cards with letter grades, credits, teacher comments, and a downloadable PDF. Available once the school year has posted grades.

Connect

Stay in the loop with messages, AI help, community, and study coaching.

8.1 Messages

Secure in-portal messaging. Conversations include your child, teachers (where allowed), and Polaris support. Unread counts appear in the sidebar.

8.2 Ask Polly AI

Polly is an AI assistant that has context about your child's academic data. You can ask questions like:

Polly uses your child's grades, test scores, study sessions, and college list to give personalized answers. Premium feature (included in your 14-day trial).

8.3 Community

A read-only feed of tips, announcements, and stories from other Polaris families. Great for picking up parenting strategies and hearing what's working for others.

8.4 Study Coach

If your family has a Polaris Study Coach connected, you can see their notes, session recaps, and recommendations here. Coaches are optional add-ons.

Family

Tools for the whole household — siblings, rewards, milestones, alerts, and financial aid.

9.1 Siblings

Links your linked children to each other so Polly and reports understand family context (e.g., older sibling's college path informs recommendations for the younger).

9.2 Rewards

Define rewards your child earns for hitting goals (e.g., a GPA target, study streak, or college application submitted). Rewards can be digital badges or real-world incentives you manage offline.

9.3 Milestones

Key academic milestones (first A, 3.5 GPA, SAT 1400+, college acceptance, etc.). Milestones are automatically detected and shown on the dashboard.

9.4 Grade Alerts

Configure grade drop alerts per child:

  1. Go to Grade Alerts in the sidebar.
  2. For each child, set a grade threshold (e.g., 70).
  3. Toggle the alert on/off.
  4. Click Save.

When any course grade drops below the threshold, you'll receive an email and in-app notification. Premium feature.

9.5 Financial Aid

Track FAFSA and CSS Profile status, scholarship applications, and aid offers from each college. Amounts roll into College Budget so you see net cost per school.
